RELATIONSHIP AMONG PARENTS? LEVEL OF INVOLVEMENT, ECONOMIC RECESSION AND PUPILS PERFORMANCE IN MATHEMATICS IN EGBEDA, OYO STATE

Abstract This paper examined parental involvement and its influence on pupils? performance in Mathematics in selected primary schools in Ibadan. The study was a descriptive study of survey type. It involved a sample of one hundred and ten (110) respondents from Egbeda Local Government Area in Ibadan, Oyo State. The major instrument used was a self designed questionnaire tagged Parental Involvement Questionnaire (PIQ) for data collection with reliability coefficient of 0.86. Data analysis employed mean, standard deviation, t-Test and Pearson?s Product-moment correlation coefficient. Result showed that there was a significant relationship between parental involvement and pupils achievement in Mathematics (r = 0.51, p< 0.05) and there was a significant difference between the working class and middle-class parents involvement in their children performance in Mathematics. (t = 2.2; p<.05). Based on the findings, the study recommended that parents should have a positive attitude towards the education of their and parents should show love to their children and provide their educational needs.
