ABSTRACT This work studiedthe effects of cooperative teaching method on students? academic achievement in mensuration in senior secondary schools in Ogun State, Nigeria. Post ?test quasi-experimental research design was used. The population for the study comprised all students of senior secondary school. The sample comprised ten intact classes of 300 students during 2014/2015 academic session from randomly selected senior secondary schools (SS2). In each of the schools, two intact classes assigned into experimental and control groups respectively were used. The two groups were taught using cooperative and lecture teaching method respectively and then exposed to the Mensuration Achievement Test (MAT) constructed by the researcher consisted 20 multiple choice items with four options A-D and the reliability co-efficient of 0.72 was obtained using Kuder-Richardson formula. Three hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics at 0.05 level of significance The results revealed a significant difference between the performance of students taught using cooperative method (M=11.18; SD =3.092) as against those taught using lecture method (M= 7.66; SD =3.23) with t(298) = 9.498, p = 0.000. It is concluded that cooperative teaching method improved students? achievement in mensuration. In view of the findings, it is recommended that workshops on cooperative teaching method should be given to teachers and be encouraged to make use of the method to teach their students.
