EXPANDING NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FRONTIERS THROUGH ICT IN MATHEMATICS: ISSUES TO CONSIDER

Abstract From the nature of mathematics and its applications, mathematics can be said to play a key role in national development. This role is believed to be enhanced with ICT input. This paper takes a look at the involvement of information and communication technology (ICT) in mathematics for national development. In this paper, the ICT revolution was highlighted. Furthermore, ICT in mathematics for business growth and agricultural transformation were discussed. Some issues that need consideration for proper deployment of ICT in mathematics for enhancing national development frontiers were examined under literacy level of citizens, acquisition of ICT tools, capacity of users, connectivity, power supply, etc. Recommendations were made, which include enhancing the literacy level of the citizenry with particular attention to mathematical and ICT literacy.
