EFFECTIVENESS OF ADDIE INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL DESIGNED BASED ON INTEREST OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN GEOMETRY

Ugboduma, Samuel Ogheneovo (Ph.D)

Abstract The present study investigated the effects of using ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) instructional design model e-learning based on students? interest in geometry; with quasi-experimental design of pretest and posttest non randomized control group adopted. The statistical populationwas all Senior Secondary School one (SS1) students in Ughelli Educational Zone of Delta State. Stratified sampling technique was adopted to select four-intact classes with 177 students assigned to treatment and control groups. The experimental groups (90) were taught geometry using ADDIE instructional designed model; while, the control groups (87) expository method. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were answered and tested using interest mean scores and ANCOVA respectively. Geometry Interest Inventory (GII) was the instrument used for data collection to measure students? interest with internalreliability index yielded 0.88 using Cronbach?s Alpha coefficient. Data analysis shown that studentstaught geometry with ADDIE had more interest gain score in the experimental groups than the control groups. Also, there is a significant difference between the mean interest scores of SS1 students taught geometry using ADDIE; and finally, male are generally interested in geometry concept teaching than the female in the pretest and posttest.
