Abstract This study investigated the relationship between students self-assessment in Mathematics and academic performance in Junior Secondary School Basic Technology and Junior Secondary School Basic Science. The research is descriptive and of the survey type as there was no treatment and manipulation of subjects. The target population consisted of the Junior Secondary School students in Ondo State. A sample of 300 JSS II students was selected from ten schools in five Local Government Area of Ondo State using stratified simple random sampling technique. The instrument titled Self-Assessment in Mathematics (SAM) adapted from Oloda (2006) and revalidated by the researchers and the students? records of performance in Basic Technology and Basic Science were used. The instrument has face and content validity and the reliability coefficient of 0.82 was considered high and therefore suitable for gathering data. Three research questions were raised with three corresponding hypotheses formulated and tested for significance at p < 0.05 level. The findings of the study showed that the value of r-calculated (0.29) greater than r-table (0.195) shows that there is significant relationship between self assessment in mathematics and the performance of students in Basic Technology. Also, the value of r-calculated (0.32) greater than r-table (0.195) established a significant relationship between the self-assessment of students in mathematics and the performance of students in basic Science. The findings of the study revealed that the value of r-calculated (0.342) greater than r-table (0.195) established a relationship between the self-assessment of students? cognitive domain in mathematics and their performance in JSS2 Basic Science. It was recommended that effective techniques for the evaluation of the overall students? self-assessment in each of the school subjects should be development and validated. Also, the mode of assessment in our schools should be re-structured so as to include the students? self-assessment in the process of obtaining information that would be used for making decisions about students, curricula, programmes and educational policy. Keywords: self-assessment, performance, relationship, correlation analysis.
