Abstract Growth and Development is premised upon progression from a current state, essential for a healthy nation and impacts its prosperity and advancement. The achieved results and gains expectedly should be sustained and improved upon in the following years. A downturn of the economy may lead to a recession that affects various sectors including the educational sector and mathematics as a discipline. This paper discusses the impact of aneconomic recession onmathematics and the roles that mathematics can play in exiting an economic recession and sustaining the growth and development of a society.
