PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS? BOND COMPONENTS AND SCHEDULED SYLLABUS COVERAGE IN OYO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract The study sought to public secondary school teachers? bond components and scheduled syllabus coverage in Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive research of survey type was adopted in the study, the population of the study comprises junior and senior secondary school teachers, 400 teachers were randomly selected through a multistage sampling technique. The respondents were teachers from 20 public senior and 20 public junior secondary schools in 3 Senatorial Districts of Oyo State, Nigeria. Four instruments namelyScheduledSyllabus Coverage Questionnaire (r=.73); Teacher Commitment Scale (r=.69); Teacher Self-Efficacy scale (r=.88) and Teacher Motivation Scale (r=87) were used. Four research questions were raised and answered. Data were analyzed using Pearson?s Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis to determine relationship, composite effect and relative contribution of each variable. The results obtained showed that scheduled syllabus coverage was positively significant correlated between teacher commitment (r = .164; p<.05), teacher self-efficacy (r = .440; p<.05), and teachers motivation (r = .220; p<.05). Also, there was significant composite effect on scheduled syllabus coverage and multiple regression ratio yielded (F(3,396) = 53.593; p<0.05), teacher self-efficacy is the most patent in prediction on scheduled syllabus coverage (?= .460; t= 10.804; P<0.05); followed by (?= .274; t= 6.415; P<0.05) and other. The results obtained revealed that teacher commitment, teacher self-efficacy and teacher motivation contributed toscheduled syllabus coverage. It was recommended that there is need for concerted efforts by stakeholders in education to provide adequate facilitiesfor teachers in order to be committed, interested and motivated to participate fully in school activities.
