Abstract This study investigated the effects of some mathematical games on primary school pupils? achievement and interest in mathematics. The area of study was Otuocha and Onitsha education zones of Anambra State. Four research questions and four research hypotheses guided the study. The researchers adopted a pre-test, post-test, non-equivalent control group design using one hundred and sixty-two (162) primary five pupils drawn from Onitsha and Anambra West Local Government Areas of Anambra State. Intact classes were drawn-experimental group and control group from each of the school sampled. Experimental group was taught with the instrument (mathematical games) while the control group was taught with expository method. Relevant data for the study were collected using mathematics achievement test (MAT) and mathematics interest inventory (MII). Research questions were answered using means and standard deviations (SD) while research hypotheses were tested using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The findings show that (i) there is a significant difference between the mean achievement scores of pupils taught with the mathematical games and those taught without mathematical games (ii) There is no significant difference between the mean achievement scores of pupils taught with the mathematical games based on sex and location. (iii) There is a significant difference between the mean interest scores of pupils taught with the mathematical games and those taught without mathematical games. (iv) There is no significant difference between the mean interest scores of pupils taught with the mathematical games based on sex and location. Based on the findings, the researchers recommended that mathematical games should be adopted for use in Nigeria primary schools. Keywords: Mathematical Games, Achievement and Interest.
