Abstract This paper intends to investigate the suitability of using fuzzy logic, and its ability to model linguistic terms, for the purpose of achieving fair evaluation of student projects. A case study that examined the use of a six-tier fuzzy-based grading scheme using linguistic variables for the assessment of final year degree student projects at Federal University Dutse was carried out. The results from this case study are presented and discussed within. The study has shown that this evaluation method offers several advantages over the traditional method of assigning a numerical value in grading students. Furthermore, the method results in a fairer assessment of the student projects. Keywords: Assessment, Fuzzy Logic, Linguistic terms, linguistic variables
