INFLUENCE OF COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ON STUDENTS? ACHIEVEMENT IN MATHEMATICS IN ABEOKUTA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT, OGUN STATE.

Abstract The study investigated the influence of collaborative learning on students? achievement in Mathematics in Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State. The study adopts pretest-posttest quasi- experimental design. A simple random sampling technique was used to select four schools for the study. A total of 300 students participated in the study. One valid and reliable instrument was used to generate data for the study. Seven hypotheses guided the study and Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analysis the data collected. The results indicated that there is a significant main effect of collaborative learning on students achievement in Mathematics (F (1, 147) = 6.57) at P< 0.05 level of significant. There was no significant main effect and interaction effect found between treatment (Collaborative learning), Socio- Economic Background and Students gender on students? achievement in Mathematics. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Mathematics teachers should adopt collaborative learning as one of the strategies to enhanced students achievement in Mathematics.
