MATHEMATICS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION: A REMEDY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The study investigated the role of mathematics and entrepreneurship education as a remedy for national development. The paper shows that despite huge number of human population and mineral resources Nigeria is endowed with, the country is still counted among under-developing countries where two-third of the population are living behind poverty line. The paper identified two major factors that hinder development in Nigeria which are; wide spread of poverty and high unemployment rate. The paper identify mathematics and entrepreneurship education as means for national development more especially in economics and social development. The paper affirmed that mathematics and entrepreneurships education can provide individuals with adequate skills, knowledge, creativity, critical thinking ability as well as problem solving techniques needed to enable one?s self-esteemed and sufficient which lead to job provider. The paper recommended that government should invest and emphasize on mathematics and entrepreneurship education as a way out for unemployment as well as for national development in Nigeria.
