ALTERNATIVE CLASS OF ESTIMATORS OF POPULATION MEAN UNDER DOUBLE SAMPLING SCHEME

Abstract This study proposes a ratio estimator of the population mean under double (two-phase) sampling scheme, in order to tackle the problem of low efficiencies of some existing estimators. The bias and mean square error of the class has been derived. Analytical and numerical results indicate that, the set of optimal estimators of the proposed class of estimators have been found to exhibit greater gains in efficiencies than the existing ones under certain conditions.
